Does Claude Code have a web interface? Cloud sessions, Remote Control and other options
Yes. claude.ai/code runs Claude Code in Anthropic's cloud, and Remote Control opens a local session in the browser. How they differ and which to use.

TL;DR
Yes, two kinds, and they work differently:
- Claude Code on the web at claude.ai/code runs sessions on Anthropic's cloud infrastructure. You connect a GitHub repository, give it a task, and review the result. Nothing runs on your computer.
- Remote Control opens a session that runs on your own computer in claude.ai/code or the Claude mobile app. Your files and tools stay local, and the browser is a window into that session.
Both need a paid plan. Anthropic's docs say cloud sessions are available on Pro, Max and Team, and for Enterprise users with premium seats or Chat + Claude Code seats.
If you want a web interface for a session on your own computer and also use agents other than Claude Code, third-party apps such as Happier cover that case.
The problem
Claude Code started as a terminal tool, and the terminal is still where guides usually begin. But a browser tab is handier on a borrowed laptop, on a tablet, or when you want to check on a long task without opening SSH. Searching for a Claude Code web UI turns up several things with similar names, and the key difference between them is where the code runs.
Option 1: Claude Code on the web (cloud sessions)
From Anthropic's cloud sessions page, read on 26 October 2026:
- A cloud session runs on infrastructure Anthropic manages, or on your organization's self-hosted environment when routed there.
- It keeps running after you close your laptop. You can check on it or steer it from any device.
- It counts toward your plan's usage limits. There's no separate charge for the cloud VM.
- You can start one from the browser at claude.ai/code, the Code tab in the Claude mobile app, the Desktop app, or the terminal with
claude --cloud. - To clone your code and push branches, it needs a GitHub connection. Other hosts have restrictions listed in the docs.
Good fit:
- Tasks on a GitHub repository that don't need anything from your machine.
- Starting work from a phone or a computer without your dev setup.
- Long tasks you don't want tied to a laptop that might sleep.
Trade-offs:
- The session doesn't see your local files, local databases, private network or local MCP servers unless the cloud environment is set up to reach them.
- It's tied to an Anthropic account. Anthropic's docs say
--cloudisn't available when Claude Code is configured for Bedrock, Google Cloud's Agent Platform or another third-party provider.
Option 2: Remote Control (a local session in the browser)
From Anthropic's Remote Control page:
- Remote Control connects claude.ai/code or the Claude app for iOS and Android to a Claude Code session running on your machine.
- Your filesystem, MCP servers, tools and project configuration stay available.
- You can send messages from the terminal, browser and phone interchangeably.
- If your laptop sleeps or the network drops, Claude Code reconnects when the machine comes back online.
- Your computer has to stay on, and the
claudeprocess has to keep running.
Start it with claude --remote-control, or run /remote-control inside a session you already have.
Good fit: you want your real local environment, and you're on a claude.ai login with Anthropic's API.
Trade-offs: it's described in Anthropic's docs as a Claude Code feature, so it covers Claude Code sessions. Anthropic's docs also list conditions that turn it off, such as API-key authentication or an ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL pointing at a gateway. Happier vs Claude Code Remote Control has the full list with sources.
Option 3: The Claude Desktop app
Not a web interface, but often what people are after. The Desktop app's Code tab includes Claude Code, so you don't need to install the CLI separately. Anthropic's overview says it needs a paid subscription. It adds parallel sessions, visual diff review and an integrated terminal. From a terminal session, /desktop continues it in the Desktop app on macOS and x64 Windows.
How the Claude Code web options compare
| Claude Code on the web | Remote Control | Desktop app | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where code runs | Anthropic's cloud | Your computer | Your computer, or cloud |
| Needs your computer on | No | Yes | Yes, for local sessions |
| Sees local files and tools | No | Yes | Yes, for local sessions |
| Opens in a browser | Yes | Yes | No |
| Works with API-key or gateway auth | No | No | See Anthropic's docs |
| Other agents | No | No | No |
Option 4: A web interface for local sessions across agents
The case none of the above covers is a browser interface for sessions on your own computer when you use more than one agent, or when your Claude Code setup uses an API key or a gateway.
If you want a web interface for agents that run on your own computers, Happier is an open-source app that lets you run and orchestrate Claude Code, Codex and other agents cross-device, from your phone, desktop or the web.
How it differs:
- The agent runs on your computer. Happier's daemon starts and runs the sessions there. The web app, phone app and desktop app connect to it.
- Several agents in one list. Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and other CLIs show up as sessions side by side, each with its own transcript, approvals and diffs.
- Any Claude Code auth. Because Happier runs Claude Code itself, API keys and custom
ANTHROPIC_BASE_URLgateways work the way they do in your terminal. - End-to-end encrypted by default. Session content is encrypted on your devices and the relay stores ciphertext. Metadata such as session ids and timestamps isn't encrypted. You can self-host the relay.
The trade-off is the same as Remote Control: your computer has to be on. Happier can't run a session on a computer that's asleep or off. How to keep agents running when your laptop sleeps covers that.
Setup is in Run Happier from your phone, and the same account works in the browser. Happier is on GitHub, you can download it here, and there's a Discord.
FAQ
Is Claude Code on the web free?
No. Cloud sessions need a paid plan and count toward its usage limits. See Is Claude Code free?
Can you use Claude Code in a browser without GitHub?
Cloud sessions need a GitHub connection to clone and push. Remote Control doesn't, because the code stays on your computer.
Is there a self-hosted Claude Code web UI?
Anthropic's cloud sessions can route to an organization's self-hosted environment. For individuals, third-party open-source interfaces run Claude Code on your own machine. Happier is one, with a self-hostable relay.
Does the web interface use the same usage limits?
Yes. Anthropic says activity across Claude on the web, desktop, mobile and Claude Code draws from the same limits.
